Deciding which food to feed your pet is one of the most important decisions you will make as a pet owner. Choosing the right food will provide your pet with the proper nutrients, minerals, and vitamins to develop normally, fight infections, and grow healthily through various life stages. Choosing the wrong food can leave your pet’s body malnourished and deficient in essential nutrients.
Unfortunately, the pet food industry is not well regulated and there are lots of claims of product superiority. Because of this lack of regulation, the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) was created. AAFCO has since established guidelines for the proper nutrition, nutrient profiles, and testing standards for animals. For this reason, Creekside Veterinary Hospital only recommends foods that contain the following statement: “Animal feeding tests using Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) procedures substantiate this food provides complete and balanced nutrition.”
We are proud to carry several brands which carry this statement (Hills, Purina, Royal Canine) and have been proven to contain complete and balanced nutrition. There are other brands that carry this statement and are appropriate for your pet. We do not recommend, however, any foods that do not carry an AAFCO statement or any raw food diets.
